Overview

Inucimab (ORFT) is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody that targets proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9). Developed by Guangdong Wantai Kechuang Pharmaceutical, a subsidiary of Beijing Wantai Biological Pharmacy, inucimab is designed to treat primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, including familial hypercholesterolemia. By binding to PCSK9, the antibody prevents it from interacting with and promoting the degradation of low-density lipoprotein receptors (LDLR) on the surface of hepatocytes. This inhibition leads to an increased density of LDLRs, which in turn enhances the clearance of LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream. As of 2024, inucimab is in Phase 3 clinical development in China, with studies evaluating its efficacy and safety as both monotherapy and in combination with statins.
