Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Inula flower, known as Xuan Fu Hua in Traditional Chinese Medicine, consists of the dried flower heads of *Inula japonica* Thunb. or *Inula britannica* L. It is a traditional herbal remedy primarily utilized for its antitussive, expectorant, and anti-emetic properties. The herb is characterized by its pharmacological ability to resolve phlegm and redirect 'rebellious qi' downward, making it a standard treatment for respiratory conditions involving thick mucus and gastrointestinal distress such as belching, hiccups, or nausea. Its therapeutic effects are attributed to a variety of bioactive sesquiterpene lactones, notably britannilactone and inulicin, as well as flavonoids, which demonstrate anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting NF-kappaB and COX-2 signaling pathways.
