Overview

Inula viscosa extract is a botanical preparation derived from the leaves of the *Inula viscosa* (syn. *Dittrichia viscosa*) plant, a perennial herb traditionally used in Mediterranean medicine. The extract contains diverse bioactive constituents, primarily sesquiterpene lactones (such as alantolactone and isoalantolactone) and polyphenols like chlorogenic acid. It demonstrates a broad pharmacological profile including anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antifungal, and antineoplastic activities. In oncology, the extract promotes apoptosis and inhibits cell cycle progression by downregulating key oncogenic drivers such as c-MYC, Cyclin D1, and anti-apoptotic proteins like Bcl-2. Clinically, it has been investigated for its hemostatic and regenerative properties, specifically in reducing postoperative bleeding and enhancing socket healing following dental surgery.
