Overview

Inulin + resistant starch is a combination of two fermentable dietary fibers, both classified as prebiotics. Inulin is a soluble fiber found in many plants (such as chicory root, garlic, and onions), while resistant starch is a form of starch that resists digestion in the small intestine and reaches the colon intact. Both are fermented by gut microbiota to produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which have beneficial effects on colonic health and mineral absorption. The combination has been shown to synergistically enhance intestinal absorption of minerals like calcium and magnesium compared to either component alone[1]. Inulin promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria such as Bifidobacterium spp., modulates immune responses, improves intestinal barrier function, and may help alleviate symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease[3][5]. Resistant starch has demonstrated benefits for weight loss and improved insulin sensitivity[6]. Together, these fibers act primarily through modulation of gut microbiota composition and activity.
