Overview

INV-102 is a novel small molecule ophthalmic drug developed by Invirsa for the treatment of ocular surface diseases. It is a modified, naturally occurring compound that acts as a p53 activator and DNA repair enzyme stimulant. The mechanism involves enhancing the DNA damage response in ocular tissues by activating p53, which accelerates DNA repair and promotes tissue healing. This approach targets cellular dysfunction caused by excessive or unrepaired DNA damage—common in conditions such as dry eye disease, infectious keratoconjunctivitis (both viral and bacterial), diabetic macular edema associated with non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy, and Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy. Preclinical studies have shown potent healing activity with an excellent safety profile across various severe ocular conditions associated with DNA damage[2][5][7]. Clinical trials are ongoing to evaluate its efficacy in these indications.
