Overview

Invimestrocel (HLCM051) is an allogeneic, "off-the-shelf" cell therapy product composed of multipotent adult progenitor cells (MAPCs) derived from the bone marrow of healthy adult donors. Developed by Healios K.K. in partnership with Athersys, it is designed to treat acute ischemic stroke by modulating the body's immune response. The mechanism of action involves the inhibition of inflammatory immune cell activation in the spleen, which reduces systemic inflammation and subsequent secondary damage to brain tissue. Additionally, the cells are thought to promote neuroprotection and repair through the secretion of various trophic and nutrient factors. It is administered via a single intravenous infusion within a specific window (18–36 hours) after stroke onset, without the need for tissue matching or immunosuppression.
