**Invossa** is an allogeneic cell-mediated gene therapy developed for osteoarthritis of the knee. Also known as TG-C or TissueGene-C, it contains allogeneic human chondrocytes and irradiated, TGF-β1-transduced GP2-293 cells mixed at a 3:1 ratio for single intra-articular administration. The engineered cells are intended to provide local transforming growth factor beta 1 expression, modulate joint inflammation, support cartilage-associated repair processes, reduce pain, and improve joint function. Invossa-K Inj. received Korean marketing authorization in 2017, but its authorization was revoked in 2019 after the second cellular component was found to be kidney-derived 293 cells rather than the cartilage-derived cells represented in the original filing. TG-C remains in U.S. development: one Phase 3 study did not meet its 12-month pain and function co-primary endpoints, while a second Phase 3 knee-osteoarthritis study remains ongoing.
