Overview
Iobitridol is a non-ionic, water-soluble, low-osmolar iodinated contrast medium (LOCM) developed by Guerbet. It is used in diagnostic imaging to enhance the visibility of internal structures during procedures such as computed tomography (CT), angiography, and urography. The molecule contains three iodine atoms that absorb X-rays, thereby increasing the attenuation of the X-ray beam as it passes through the body. This physical property allows for clearer visualization of blood vessels, organs, and other tissues where the agent is distributed. Iobitridol is characterized by its low osmolality and chemotoxicity, which contributes to its safety profile in both adult and pediatric populations.
