iodamide

Iodamide is a high-osmolar, ionic, water-soluble iodinated contrast medium used in diagnostic radiology. Chemically, it is a tri-iodinated benzoic acid derivative. It was historically employed for a variety of imaging procedures, including intravenous urography, hysterosalpingography, galactography, and angiography. As a high-osmolarity contrast medium (HOM), it is associated with higher rates of adverse reactions compared to newer low-osmolar non-ionic agents. It functions by absorbing X-rays, thereby opacifying vascular structures, organs, and body cavities for radiographic visualization. It is typically administered as a meglumine or sodium salt solution.
