Iodine-125 seeds strand is a radiopharmaceutical device used for brachytherapy, where multiple radioactive iodine-125 (I-125) seeds are arranged in a linear configuration (strand) and implanted directly into or near tumor tissue. The I-125 isotope emits low-energy gamma radiation with a half-life of approximately 59.6 days, providing localized irradiation to destroy cancer cells while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. The strands are typically encased in biocompatible materials such as titanium and can be delivered via catheters or needles under imaging guidance. This therapy is primarily indicated for localized prostate cancer but is also used for other malignancies including ureteral carcinoma and certain types of breast cancer. The mechanism of action involves continuous local emission of ionizing radiation that induces DNA damage in tumor cells, leading to cell death[2][3][4].
