Iodine-131 aiketuximab is a radioimmunotherapeutic agent comprising the murine monoclonal antibody aiketuximab labeled with the radioisotope iodine-131. Developed by Shanghai Haikang Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology Development, it specifically targets the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), a protein frequently overexpressed in solid tumors such as colorectal, gastric, and pancreatic cancers. The antibody serves as a vehicle to deliver the beta-emitting iodine-131 directly to the tumor site, where the radiation induces DNA double-strand breaks and subsequent apoptosis in malignant cells. This targeted delivery system is designed to enhance the therapeutic index of radiation therapy by concentrating the dose within the tumor microenvironment while minimizing systemic exposure.
