Iodine-131 basiliximab (also known as CHT-25) is an investigational radioimmunotherapy agent consisting of the chimeric monoclonal antibody basiliximab conjugated to the radioisotope iodine-131 (¹³¹I). Basiliximab specifically targets the alpha chain of the interleukin-2 receptor (CD25), which is highly expressed on the surface of malignant cells in various lymphoproliferative disorders, including Hodgkin's disease and certain T-cell lymphomas. By binding to CD25, the agent delivers targeted beta-radiation from the iodine-131 isotope directly to the tumor cells, causing DNA damage and subsequent cell death. This therapeutic approach is designed to treat patients with relapsed or refractory disease who have confirmed CD25 expression. The drug has been primarily evaluated in pilot clinical studies conducted by the South Metropolitan Area Health Service in Western Australia.
