Drug intelligence / Profile preview
iodine-131-labeled hyaluronic acid microgels is an injectable, biodegradable radiopharmaceutical platform developed by Pusan National University and its spinout SNvia for localized microbrachytherapy. Designed primarily for the treatment of refractory keloids, the platform consists of di-functionalized hyaluronic acid (HAMA-API) microgels that undergo rapid, on-site radiolabeling with iodine-131. Upon intralesional injection, the microgels remain strictly localized at the target site for up to 14 days, delivering precise beta and gamma radiation. This localized exposure induces dose-dependent DNA damage and apoptosis in overactive keloid fibroblasts, significantly reducing keloid volume while minimizing systemic radiation exposure and off-target toxicity.
