Iodine-131-labelled A5B7 is a radiopharmaceutical composed of the monoclonal antibody A5B7 conjugated with the radioisotope iodine-131. The monoclonal antibody A5B7 specifically targets carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), which is overexpressed in many colorectal and other carcinomas. By labeling this antibody with radioactive iodine-131, the drug delivers targeted beta radiation to CEA-expressing tumor cells, resulting in localized cytotoxicity and cell death. This approach combines the specificity of immunotherapy with the cytotoxic effects of radiotherapy for cancer treatment. Iodine-131 emits both beta particles (for therapeutic effect) and gamma rays (which can be used for imaging). The primary indication has been investigational therapy for CEA-positive cancers such as colorectal carcinoma.
