Overview
Iodine povacrylex is a film-forming iodophor antiseptic agent used for preoperative skin preparation to reduce bacteria that can cause skin infection. It is typically formulated with isopropyl alcohol (notably in the product Duraprep) and provides fast-acting, persistent, broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity. The mechanism of action involves killing microorganisms by denaturation of proteins through oxidation after penetration of the cell wall. Iodine povacrylex forms a water-insoluble film on the skin, offering long-lasting protection against microbial contamination during surgical procedures. It is intended for topical use only and not absorbed systemically[2][8][9].
