Drug intelligence / Profile preview
IoGen is an investigational molecular iodine-based pharmaceutical developed by Symbollon Pharmaceuticals for treating fibrocystic breast disease and associated breast pain. It works by delivering molecular iodine, which is believed to regulate estrogen-sensitive tissues and eliminate excess cell growth in female reproductive organs including the breast, ovaries, and uterus, potentially addressing conditions exacerbated by estrogen imbalance. In a Phase III clinical trial, IoGen achieved its primary efficacy endpoint of pain reduction in 56% of patients (34 of 61), demonstrating clinical success compared to positive controls.
