Overview

Iomeprol is a non-ionic, water-soluble, monomeric iodinated contrast medium (ICM) used in diagnostic radiology. Developed by Bracco, it is classified as a low-osmolar contrast medium (LOCM) and is available in high iodine concentrations (up to 400 mgI/mL). Iomeprol is widely utilized for various imaging procedures, including computed tomography (CT), angiography, and urography, to enhance the visualization of vascular structures and organs. Clinical studies have extensively evaluated its renal safety profile, particularly in high-risk patients with pre-existing chronic kidney disease, often comparing its incidence of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) to iso-osmolar agents like iodixanol. It is also employed in specialized applications such as contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) and pancreatic computed tomography angiography (CTA).
