Drug intelligence / Profile preview
IONCLAD is an antimicrobial materials platform developed by Iasis Molecular Sciences, designed to combat healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) by preventing microbial colonization on medical devices and clinical surfaces. The technology utilizes advanced materials and polymer fillers infused with antimicrobial metal ions, primarily silver and copper. These ions are released or act upon contact to destroy or inhibit the growth of a broad spectrum of pathogens, including bacteria, viruses (such as SARS-CoV-2 and influenza), and fungi. IONCLAD is integrated into various medical applications, most notably the SOTERION Foley catheter, and can be applied as a coating to wound dressings, endotracheal tubes, and architectural surfaces in healthcare settings. Unlike systemic antibiotics, IONCLAD provides localized, surface-level protection to prevent the formation of biofilms and the transmission of infections.
