Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ioversol is a non-ionic, water-soluble, low-osmolar iodinated contrast agent used in diagnostic radiography. Developed by Mallinckrodt and currently marketed primarily under the brand name Optiray, it is indicated for a wide range of procedures including cerebral, coronary, and peripheral angiography, as well as computed tomography (CT) and urography. As a radiopaque agent, ioversol works by increasing the attenuation of X-rays in the body, allowing for the visualization of blood vessels and organs that are otherwise difficult to distinguish from surrounding tissues. Its non-ionic nature and low osmolality are designed to improve patient tolerability and reduce the risk of adverse reactions compared to older ionic contrast media.
