IP2016 is a preclinical-stage small molecule being developed by Initiator Pharma as a triple reuptake inhibitor (TRI). The compound is designed to inhibit the reuptake of three key neurotransmitters—serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine—by targeting their respective transporters (SERT, NET, and DAT). By increasing the availability of these monoamines in the synaptic cleft, IP2016 is intended to modulate descending inhibitory pain pathways. The drug is currently in exploratory development for the treatment of various pain conditions, aiming to provide a broader therapeutic effect than selective reuptake inhibitors.
