Overview

IPD-52520 is an engineered mini-protein prophylaxis candidate developed by IAVI in collaboration with the Institute for Protein Design (IPD) at the University of Washington and GSK. Designed through computational methods, the protein is intended to bind specifically to the SARS-CoV-2 virus to neutralize it and block its entry into host cells. Administered as a nasal spray, it creates a protective layer in the upper respiratory tract to prevent viral penetration and may alleviate symptoms of existing infections by disrupting viral replication. Development has been supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, with clinical evaluation including a Phase 1 trial (IAVI C106) in South Africa and Zimbabwe.
