Drug intelligence / Profile preview
iPfSPZ (in vitro produced Plasmodium falciparum sporozoites) is a whole-parasite malaria vaccine platform developed by Sanaria. Unlike traditional PfSPZ vaccines which rely on aseptic mosquitoes for production (mPfSPZ), iPfSPZ are mass-produced in vitro using bioreactors. This mosquito-free manufacturing process is designed to significantly increase production efficiency, lower cost of goods by up to 90%, and facilitate large-scale manufacture for mass vaccination programs. iPfSPZ have been shown to successfully invade human hepatocytes and develop into late liver-stage schizonts, demonstrating comparable infectivity and immunogenicity to mosquito-derived sporozoites.
