Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Iphinidone (HEC88473) is an orally bioavailable small molecule anti-fibrotic agent developed by Guangdong Dongyangguang Pharmaceutical (HEC Pharm) for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). It is a structural analogue of pirfenidone, designed to improve upon the pharmacokinetic and safety profile of the parent compound. Like pirfenidone, iphinidone is thought to exert its therapeutic effects by inhibiting the synthesis of pro-fibrotic cytokines, particularly transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta), and reducing fibroblast proliferation and collagen deposition. It has undergone Phase 1 safety and drug-drug interaction studies and has progressed into Phase 2 clinical trials for IPF.
