Overview

Ipilimumab is a fully human IgG1 monoclonal antibody that functions as an immune checkpoint inhibitor. It specifically targets cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen 4 (CTLA-4), a protein receptor on T cells that downregulates the immune response. By blocking CTLA-4, ipilimumab enhances the activation and proliferation of T-cells, thereby promoting an anti-tumor immune response. Ipilimumab is primarily used in the treatment of various cancers including unresectable or metastatic melanoma, renal cell carcinoma (RCC), colorectal cancer with microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) or mismatch repair deficient (dMMR) status, hepatocellular carcinoma, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), malignant pleural mesothelioma, and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. It can be administered alone or in combination with other agents such as nivolumab[1][2][3][5][6][7].
