Overview

Ipilimumab + budesonide is a combination of two drugs used in the context of cancer immunotherapy, particularly for patients with advanced or unresectable melanoma. Ipilimumab is a human monoclonal antibody that targets cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen 4 (CTLA-4), thereby blocking an inhibitory signal to T-cells and enhancing immune-mediated antitumor responses[1][6]. Budesonide is a synthetic glucocorticoid with potent anti-inflammatory properties, primarily acting through activation of the glucocorticoid receptor to modulate gene expression and suppress inflammatory pathways[4]. In clinical studies, budesonide has been investigated as prophylaxis for immune-related diarrhea/colitis induced by ipilimumab; however, evidence shows that prophylactic use of budesonide does not reduce the incidence or severity of diarrhea associated with ipilimumab therapy[2][5][8]. Ipilimumab was developed by Bristol Myers Squibb and is approved for metastatic melanoma. Budesonide is widely used for inflammatory conditions such as asthma and Crohn's disease.
