Overview

IPN10210 is a next-generation, recombinant chimeric botulinum neurotoxin (rBoNT) developed by Ipsen Innovation for the preventive treatment of migraine. The molecule is engineered as a fusion protein that combines structural and functional elements from both botulinum toxin serotypes A and B. Specifically, it is designed to utilize the catalytic light chain of one serotype (typically serotype A) and the receptor-binding heavy chain of another (typically serotype B), or a similar chimeric configuration, to optimize its pharmacological profile. By entering peripheral nerve terminals and cleaving SNARE proteins such as SNAP-25 or VAMP, IPN10210 inhibits the release of neurotransmitters and pro-inflammatory neuropeptides, including calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), which are central to migraine pathophysiology. The drug is currently being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials for both episodic and chronic migraine prophylaxis.
