Overview

Ipomea pes-caprae ointment is an investigational botanical drug product developed by Mahidol University for the treatment of jellyfish dermatitis. The active ingredient is an extract derived from *Ipomoea pes-caprae* (beach morning glory), a plant traditionally used in Thai medicine for its anti-pruritogenic and anti-inflammatory properties. The extract contains a variety of bioactive phytochemicals, including isochlorogenic acid A, E-phytol, and β-damascenone. Its mechanism of action involves antispasmodic activity that inhibits vascular smooth muscle contractions and anti-inflammatory effects that neutralize the toxic components of jellyfish venom. The ointment is being evaluated as an add-on therapy to standard care to reduce healing time and alleviate symptoms of jellyfish stings.
