Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ipomoea cairica methanol extract is a plant-derived research compound obtained from the leaves, flowers, or roots of *Ipomoea cairica* (L.) Sweet, a member of the Convolvulaceae family commonly known as the railway creeper. The extract contains a complex mixture of phytochemicals, including flavonoid glycosides, sulphated flavonoids, arctigenin, matairesinol, trans-2,3-dibenzylbutyrolactone, vanillic acid, β-sitosterol, stigmasterol, and various fatty acids. Preclinical studies have investigated the extract for its potential antioxidant, antiproliferative, antimicrobial, larvicidal, hepatoprotective, and antidiabetic properties. It has demonstrated in vitro cytotoxicity against several cancer cell lines, including breast cancer (MCF-7, MDA-MB-231, 4T1), prostate cancer (LNCaP), and lung cancer (A549), as well as inhibitory activity against α-glucosidase and α-amylase. The extract is primarily used as a research tool and has not advanced to clinical development.
