Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ipomoea cairica stem extract is a botanical research compound obtained from the stems of *Ipomoea cairica* L. Sweet (family Convolvulaceae), a tropical climber commonly known as morning glory. The extract, typically prepared using organic solvents such as methanol or dichloromethane, contains a diverse array of secondary metabolites including coumarins (scopoletin and umbelliferone), caffeoylquinic acids, alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, tannins, and phytosterols. It has been investigated in academic and research settings for its antinociceptive, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiproliferative properties. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its cytotoxic activity against various breast cancer cell lines, including triple-negative breast cancer (MDA-MB-231 and 4T1), as well as larvicidal activity against *Aedes aegypti* mosquitoes. In traditional Brazilian folk medicine, the plant has been used to treat rheumatism, inflammation, syphilis, and diarrhea. No specific single biological target has been definitively identified.
