iproclozide

Iproclozide is an irreversible and selective monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) of the hydrazine chemical class. It was primarily used as an antidepressant, functioning by inhibiting monoamine oxidase enzymes responsible for the breakdown of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. This inhibition increases levels of these neurotransmitters in the synaptic cleft, contributing to its antidepressant effects. Iproclozide was withdrawn from clinical use due to its association with severe hepatotoxicity, including cases of fulminant hepatitis and several reported fatalities[1][2][5][6][8].
