Ipsapirone

Ipsapirone is a selective serotonin 5-HT1A receptor partial agonist belonging to the piperazine and azapirone chemical classes. It has demonstrated antidepressant and anxiolytic effects in preclinical and clinical studies. Ipsapirone acts primarily by stimulating presynaptic somatodendritic 5-HT1A receptors in the brainstem raphe nuclei, leading to reduced serotonergic neuron firing and decreased serotonergic neurotransmission in projection areas such as the hippocampus. It has been studied for major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder but is not approved for clinical use; it continues to be used as a research tool[1][2][3][5][6].
