Overview

This regenerative cell therapy is a combination product developed through a collaboration between Evotec and Sernova. It integrates Sernova's **Cell Pouch System**, an implantable medical device, with Evotec's induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived islet-like clusters. The Cell Pouch is designed to be implanted subcutaneously where it becomes vascularized, creating a natural environment for the subsequent transplantation of therapeutic cells. The active biological component consists of iPSC-derived clusters containing insulin-producing beta cells, glucagon-producing alpha cells, and somatostatin-producing delta cells. This therapy aims to restore endogenous glycemic control and physiological hormone regulation in patients with insulin-dependent diabetes, potentially providing a functional cure for both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
