IPS-NSC cells (Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell-derived Neural Stem Cells) represent a regenerative cell therapy platform where neural stem cells are generated from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). These cells are designed to differentiate into various neural lineages, including neurons, astrocytes, and oligodendrocytes, to repair or replace damaged nervous system tissue. The primary therapeutic rationale involves the transplantation of these cells into sites of neurological injury or degeneration, such as the spinal cord or brain, where they can integrate into existing circuits, provide neurotrophic support, and promote remyelination. Clinical development is most notably being pursued by institutions like Keio University, which initiated a landmark Phase 1/2 trial for subacute spinal cord injury using clinical-grade iPSC-derived neural stem/progenitor cells. The platform is also being explored for neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson's disease and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
