Overview

Iptakalim is a novel ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channel opener. It has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells (PASMCs) and pulmonary vascular remodeling. In a rat model of chronic hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension, iptakalim significantly decreased pulmonary artery pressure and inhibited PKC-α overexpression. Its effects are mediated through KATP channels and involve the downregulation of PKC-α, suggesting its potential as a treatment for hypoxic pulmonary hypertension.
