IPV Vaccine SSI

IPV Vaccine SSI is a stand-alone inactivated poliovirus vaccine developed and manufactured by Statens Serum Institut. It contains formalin-inactivated poliovirus strains of all three serotypes (types 1, 2, and 3) and is administered via intramuscular or subcutaneous injection. The vaccine induces the production of neutralizing antibodies in the blood that protect against paralytic disease caused by polioviruses. Unlike oral polio vaccines (OPV), it does not contain live virus and cannot cause vaccine-derived polio. Its mechanism of action is based on stimulating humoral immunity to prevent viral spread to the central nervous system[1][3]. The safety profile is well established with most adverse events being mild; serious systemic reactions are rare[1][3]. It serves as a primary immunization or booster for children and adults at risk of exposure to poliovirus.
