Drug intelligence / Profile preview
IPX203 (Crexont) is an oral extended-release formulation of carbidopa and levodopa developed by Amneal Pharmaceuticals and Zambon Biotech for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. It utilizes a multi-particulate delivery system consisting of immediate-release granules and polymer-coated extended-release beads, designed to provide a rapid onset of action and a significantly longer duration of 'ON' time compared to immediate-release carbidopa-levodopa. The FDA approved IPX203 under the brand name Crexont in August 2024 for the treatment of Parkinson's disease, including patients experiencing motor fluctuations. In Europe, Zambon Biotech is conducting Phase 3b trials (such as the ADIP study) to further evaluate its efficacy and safety in advanced Parkinson's disease patients.
