Drug intelligence / Profile preview
iQ-032 is a preclinical-drug candidate being developed by iQure Pharma for the treatment of pain. It acts as a modulator of the Excitatory Amino Acid Transporter 2 (EAAT2), a primary glutamate transporter located mainly on perisynaptic astrocytes. EAAT2 is responsible for clearing the majority of glutamate from the synaptic cleft; its dysfunction or downregulation is associated with various central nervous system disorders and chronic pain states. By modulating EAAT2 activity, iQ-032 aims to restore glutamate homeostasis and mitigate glutamate-mediated excitotoxicity and signaling abnormalities. The program is currently in the lead identification stage of development.
