Overview

iQFerr is a proprietary series of small molecule ferroptosis inhibitors developed through a collaboration between Helmholtz Munich, the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD), and Novo Nordisk. These quinone-based compounds are specifically designed to inhibit ferroptosis, a form of regulated cell death characterized by iron-dependent phospholipid peroxidation. By preventing lipid peroxidation, iQFerr inhibitors aim to protect against tissue damage in acute conditions such as acute kidney injury, myocardial infarction, and stroke, as well as chronic neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. The program is currently in the preclinical lead optimization phase, focusing on the development of potent, fully novel anti-ferroptotic agents to mitigate organ damage and neurodegeneration.
