IR-783 is a heptamethine cyanine near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent dye primarily used as a probe for in vivo imaging of tumor cells. It exhibits excitation/emission maxima around 776/798 nm and is valued for its ability to selectively accumulate in tumor tissues due to enhanced permeability and retention effects. Beyond imaging applications, recent studies indicate that IR-783 can significantly inhibit tumor growth and induce apoptosis when used alone or in combination with other agents. It has also been formulated into liposomes for photodynamic therapy (PDT), showing efficacy against advanced cancers such as tongue and breast cancer. Additionally, it serves as a starting material for the synthesis of related NIR dyes like IR808[1][4][6][7].
