Overview

IRDye800-BBN is a fluorescent imaging agent designed for intraoperative visualization of tumors, particularly glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). It consists of the near-infrared dye IRDye800CW conjugated to bombesin (BBN), a peptide that specifically targets the gastrin-releasing peptide receptor (GRPR), which is overexpressed in various tumors including gliomas. When administered intravenously prior to surgery, it accumulates in tumor tissue expressing GRPR and enables real-time fluorescence-guided resection using specialized imaging systems. This approach improves the precision of tumor boundary identification during neurosurgery and may enhance surgical outcomes and patient survival[6][5][8]. Clinical studies have demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity for tumor detection with this agent, as well as favorable safety profiles[6][5].
