IRDye800CW-exendin-4 is a fluorescent imaging agent developed by Radboud University Medical Center for the targeted visualization of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) expressing tissues. It consists of the GLP-1 receptor agonist exendin-4 conjugated to the near-infrared fluorescent dye IRDye800CW. The agent is primarily utilized as an optical imaging biomarker to assess beta-cell mass in patients with type 2 diabetes and for the intraoperative detection of GLP-1R-positive lesions, such as insulinomas and focal congenital hyperinsulinism. By binding specifically to GLP-1R on pancreatic beta cells, it enables high-resolution, real-time fluorescence imaging.
