IRDye800CW-VU1D9 is a near-infrared (NIR) fluorescently labeled monoclonal antibody conjugate designed for fluorescence-guided surgery (FGS). It consists of the monoclonal antibody VU1D9, which specifically targets the epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM/CD326), covalently linked to the NIR fluorophore IRDye 800CW. EpCAM is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is significantly overexpressed in various epithelial malignancies, including head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), while maintaining low expression in normal squamous epithelium. Upon intravenous administration, the conjugate localizes to EpCAM-positive tumor cells, allowing surgeons to visualize tumor margins and detect microscopic residual disease in real-time using NIR imaging systems. This approach aims to improve the precision of surgical resections and reduce the incidence of positive margins.
