Overview

IRE + γδ T cells is a combination therapy approach being investigated at Fuda Cancer Hospital in Guangzhou, China, for the treatment of locally advanced pancreatic cancer. The therapy combines Irreversible Electroporation (IRE), a non-thermal ablation technique that uses electrical pulses to induce tumor cell death, with allogeneic gamma-delta (γδ) T cell immunotherapy. IRE is a physical ablation procedure that delivers short, high-voltage electrical pulses to create nanoscale defects (nanopores) in cell membranes, inducing apoptosis without damaging surrounding structures like blood vessels and nerves. The γδ T cells represent a subset of T lymphocytes that are administered as an immunotherapy component to provide direct cytotoxic anti-tumor activity and stimulate a broader immune response. This procedural-biologic combination aims to reduce local tumor burden while simultaneously targeting residual or metastatic disease through immune activation.
