Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Iricoxib is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the coxib class, structurally and pharmacologically related to etoricoxib. It acts as a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor, reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins involved in pain and inflammation. Like other COX-2 inhibitors, it is designed to provide anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects with reduced gastrointestinal side effects compared to traditional NSAIDs that inhibit both COX-1 and COX-2. Iricoxib is primarily indicated for the management of pain and inflammation associated with conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gouty arthritis, and other musculoskeletal disorders.
