Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination regimen of two chemotherapeutic agents, irinotecan and epirubicin. Irinotecan is a topoisomerase I inhibitor that prevents DNA from unwinding, thereby inhibiting DNA replication and transcription in cancer cells. Epirubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates into DNA, inhibits topoisomerase II, and generates free radicals leading to cytotoxicity. The combination may be used in investigational or off-label settings for the treatment of various cancers, particularly solid tumors such as gastrointestinal malignancies.
