Overview
Irinotecan liposome is a liposomal formulation of irinotecan, a topoisomerase I inhibitor. This formulation is designed to enhance drug delivery to tumors, particularly in conditions with dense stroma such as pancreatic cancer. The liposomal encapsulation protects irinotecan from early conversion to its active metabolite, SN-38, and allows for sustained intratumoral levels, which may improve antitumor activity. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma. The drug was originally developed by Merrimack Pharmaceuticals and later acquired by Ipsen.
