Iris nertschinskia ethanol extract is a botanical extract derived from the ornamental plant *Iris nertschinskia* (also known as *Xiphion orientale*), which has historically been used in traditional East Asian medicine to treat skin diseases and inflammation. Preclinical research has demonstrated that this extract possesses anti-tumor activity, specifically inducing p53-dependent apoptosis in human breast cancer cell lines (such as MCF7) by promoting p53 phosphorylation, inducing Bax protein expression, and triggering caspase-7 cleavage. Additionally, its cytotoxic effects are modulated by AKT signaling, with cell death induction varying based on the levels of phosphorylated AKT1 and AKT2. A South Korean patent (KR101104269B1) covers a pharmaceutical composition of this extract for cancer prevention and treatment, though it remains in the academic and preclinical stages of research with no commercial developers or clinical trials.
