Overview

IRO-203 is an intranasal COVID-19 vaccine candidate developed by ID Pharma Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of I'rom Group. It utilizes a non-transmissible Sendai virus (SeV) vector to deliver the genetic sequence of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. Administered intranasally, the vaccine is designed to induce both systemic immunity (IgG) and local mucosal immunity (IgA) in the respiratory tract, which is the primary site of viral entry. This approach aims to provide a more effective barrier against infection and transmission compared to traditional intramuscular vaccines. IRO-203 is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials in Japan as a booster dose for healthy adults who have previously received primary COVID-19 vaccinations.
