Overview

IRO2201A is a biosimilar candidate of denosumab, a fully human monoclonal antibody. Developed by ID Pharma, it is designed to inhibit the Receptor Activator of Nuclear Factor Kappa-B Ligand (RANKL). By binding to RANKL, IRO2201A prevents the interaction between RANKL and its receptor, RANK, which is located on the surface of osteoclasts and their precursors. This inhibition leads to a reduction in osteoclast formation, function, and survival, thereby decreasing bone resorption and increasing bone mineral density. The drug is currently being evaluated in bioequivalence studies against the reference product Ranmark (denosumab) for potential use in treating bone-related conditions such as bone metastases and giant cell tumor of bone.
