Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Iron-HES is an investigational intravenous iron preparation developed by Serumwerk Bernburg. It consists of iron complexed with hydroxyethyl starch (HES) as a carrier molecule. Designed as a parenteral iron formulation, it aims to replenish iron stores and treat iron-deficiency anemia, specifically in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). By supplying elemental iron, it supports the iron-deficiency pathway and erythropoiesis. It has been evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials in Austria, comparing its safety and efficacy to iron dextran (Cosmofer).
